Cell Culture Testing and Handling

MicroBios offers a wide range of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell culture testing and handling services. These services meet the needs of researchers who are looking for results without the difficulties of internal handling. Our scientists specialize in designing custom studies, but will also follow a protocol prescribed by our customers. DNA Cloning

Our DNA cloning services provide the means to turn DNA sequences containing open reading frames (ORFs) into expression-ready clones. Open reading frames from full-length genes are amplified and cloned into an appropriate expression vector.

Protein Engineering

Working closely with academic partners (including Cornell University in Ithaca, NY), MicroBios has developed and continuously enhances a host of cutting edge proprietary biomolecular engineering techniques. The aim of Protein Engineering is to modulate and optimize specific protein properties.

Protein Purification

Our experience with methods of denaturation/refolding and reconstituting proteins in their active state means that we can assist you at each stage of the the purification process. We use a variety of separation methods to ensure the highest purity of your target protein, in whatever amount you require. Upon project completion, our specialists assess the final product according to your specifications (see Protein Characterization below).

Protein Characterization

Customers may submit protein samples to MicroBios for an assessment that includes any or all of the following:

  • Gel Electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE, Native, IEF, 2-D) and Coomassie blue or silver staining
  • Protein concentration determination
  • Western immunoblotting
  • Absorption spectrum measurement
  • N-terminal sequencing

Fermentation Process Optimization and/or Design (Up to 10-Liter Working Volume)

MicroBios uses factorial design in performing fermentation development at the 10-liter scale and in computer-controlled bioreactors. Careful statistical design is used in every process development project to achieve a rational and efficient approach. Whenever possible, defined, animal component-free growth media are employed.

Specialized Media Development and Optimization

MicroBios scientists can develop media formulations specifically suited to your working cell lines and expression systems. We can also formulate nutrient supplements to your specifications for customized bioreactor feed strategies.
